As we scale our operations, we need talented professionals who can contribute to our financial excellence and support our growth trajectory.Location: MauritiusDepartment: ComplianceReports to: Board of directorsJob SummaryWe are looking for a meticulous and experienced Compliance Officer & DMLRO to join our team in Mauritius. You will play a critical role in maintaining the integrity of our operations by ensuring full compliance with the FIAMLA 2002, FIAML Regulations 2018, and the FSC AML/CFT Handbook. As the DMLRO, you will act as the primary deputy to the MLRO, overseeing suspicious activity monitoring and serving as a key point of contact for the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU).Key ResponsibilitiesRegulatory Alignment: Ensure the company's internal programs, controls, and procedures are in continuous compliance with Mauritius' legislative framework (FIAMLA, FSC Guidelines, and the United Nations Sanctions Act).Suspicious Activity Management: Assist the MLRO in receiving and investigating internal suspicious transaction reports; evaluate findings and determine if a formal report (STR) must be filed with the FIU via goAML.Risk Assessment: Conduct and maintain Business Risk Assessments (BRA) and Customer Risk Assessments (CRA) to identify and mitigate potential ML/TF vulnerabilities.Onboarding & Monitoring: Oversee the KYC/CDD process for all clients, ensuring Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) is applied to high-risk profiles and PEPs.Internal Audit & Reporting: Conduct regular compliance monitoring tests and report non-compliance directly to the Board of Directors and Senior Management.Liaison: Act as a secondary liaison with the Financial Services Commission (FSC) and the FIU during onsite inspections or regulatory inquiries.Culture of Compliance: Develop and deliver annual AML/CFT training sessions for all employees to ensure they are conversant with their legal obligations.Hard skillsGood to knowGoals & Performance Metrics:Your primary goal is to ensure zero regulatory breaches. Success is measured by the robustness of your Business Risk Assessments (BRA), the accuracy and timeliness of suspicious transaction reporting via goAML, and the effectiveness of internal AML/CFT training. A "clean" audit from the FSC is your ultimate KPI.N+1 Management Style:Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, your management structure is defined by independence and high-level accountability. You won't be micromanaged; instead, you are treated as a senior advisor. The Board relies on your autonomous judgment to flag risks and guide the company's ethical compass.Career Progression Opportunities:As a DMLRO in a scaling firm, you are on the fast track to becoming a Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) or a Chief Risk Officer (CRO). We prioritize those with a Law or Finance background and a proven track record of handling FIU inquiries. A "black-and-white" approach to ethics is non-negotiable.Qualifications & ExperienceCandidates must meet the FSC Mauritius Competency Standards:Experience: * Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the financial services/global business sector.
Education: Degree in Law, Management, Finance, or a related field.
Certification: ACAMS or ICA certification is highly preferred.
Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of the Mauritius regulatory landscape, including the FSC Handbook and FIAMLA requirements.
Approval: Preference will be given to candidates who have previously been "Fit and Proper" approved by the FSC.Key CompetenciesIndependent Judgment: Ability to act autonomously and maintain the independence required by the DMLRO function.
Technical Proficiency: Comfortable using goAML for reporting and World-Check (or similar) for screening.
Communication: Strong ability to draft detailed compliance manuals and report complex findings to the Board.
Integrity: High level of professionalism and ethical standards as required for an FSC-regulated officer.Work condition:This is a high-responsibility, specialized environment. You will handle sensitive, confidential data and interact frequently with regulatory bodies (FSC, FIU).
